The Nova Scotia Surf Project is a photography project created to document the people, places, and stories that make up Nova Scotia’s surf community.

Nova Scotia might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of surfing, but along our coastline is a community of people who willingly trade warm water and tropical beaches for cold Atlantic swells, changing conditions, and the simple pull of the ocean. Some have been surfing for decades. Others are just learning. Some have a favourite break they return to again and again, while others are constantly searching for the next good swell. What they share is a connection to the water and a love for a sport that has become part of their lives.

This project is about capturing that connection—not just the waves, but the people behind them. The surfers, the friendships, the coastline, the long drives, the cold water, the quiet moments, and the stories that rarely make it beyond the beach. Each profile is a small piece of a much bigger story: a record of who is out there, what keeps them coming back, and what surfing looks like on this stretch of Atlantic coast.
