Born in Cape Breton and raised in Dartmouth, Maria first tried surfing a few times when she was 16, but it wasn’t until she watched Bethany Hamilton’s documentary and movie that she knew she wanted to get back in the water and give surfing another try. Her favourite part of surfing is the breakthrough that happens when you don’t give up. And what keeps her coming back? Probably chasing the high of that next best wave.
